Description: Makuru the season of fertility occurred during June and July when the first rains appeared. This season was known as the coldest and wettest time of the year. During this time the tribes made their way in-land and away from coastal areas. The waterways and catchments begun to fill, and sources of food changed from fish and crustaceans to other game such as kangaroos, emus, and swans. Also, during this season animals started to pair up for breeding such as the Maali – Swan who arrived in large numbers around the waterways in preparation for nesting and breeding purposes. Blue and purple flowers begin to emerge such as the Blueberry Lilly and purple flags.
