Description: Birak the season of the young occurred during December and Januawry when the warmer easterly winds blew during the day. This season was known as the ‘fire season’ when the traditional burning methods were used to burn parts of country in mosaic patterns to reduce undergrowth, seed germination and travelling purposes. The fires also forced Yonga (kangaroo), karda (goanna) and small marsupials into the open where they could be hunted. As summer advanced Nyungars gathered in greater numbers. During this time the Banksia flowers were also gathered for its honey.
